DANIEL WEINSTOCK, SCULPTOR
I work intuitively as an artist. Every time I create a sculpture it is an act of discovering relationships of its parts by way of understanding the motion, velocity, and density of the mass of material and the defining spaces in between. I enjoy exploring the special quality of the particular material and seek to exploit it’s unique features, such as the tensile strength of different types of wood and the possibility of finding intriguing forms and modes of attachment. I am also driven by tactile qualities, such as the color, figure, and texture, of the material. Steam-bending wood has given me the opportunity to explore unusual shapes and exotic sensibilities.
Hopefully, when each sculpture is completed a dynamic and defining energy, sometimes mystery, emerges.
A secondary business of my studio/shop is building exhibit cases/pedestals and making custom support mounts for art objects, which comes from my professional experience working for museums.
